Happy Holidays from the Advocacy Center
With your support, the Advocacy Center protected, empowered and advocated for people with disabilities throughout 2010. For example,
- We filed a federal lawsuit to stop cuts in the long-term personal care services program, which helps people with disabilities stay out of nursing homes.
- We helped 91 students with disabilities to obtain appropriate educational services, including appropriate IEPs that are implemented correctly, assistive technology and protection from illegal suspensions and expulsions.
- We helped 100 people living in institutions like psychiatric hospitals, developmental centers, and child residential facilities by protecting their rights and ensuring they are safe from abuse and neglect.
- We fought to ensure the Mahalia Jackson Theater and Southern University in Baton Rouge are accessible to people with disabilities.
- We trained over 5000 people with disabilities, family members and advocates about their rights.
As 2010 draws to a close, we recognize and are grateful for what we have accomplished on behalf of our clients. But we understand that the need is so much greater than we have the capacity to meet, funds are scarce and cuts to services for people with disabilities continue.
Please consider a donation to the Advocacy Center as you plan your charitable giving for the year. A gift, in any amount, will help us continue to meet the needs of vulnerable Louisianians.
All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Thank you for your support. Happy Holidays.
