AC Helps More People with Disabilities Find Housing

AC’s Systems Advocacy Specialist, Charles Tubre, has been working to help people with disabilities find housing in New Orleans. Over the past 6 months, Charles, with assistance from Client Advocate VanShawn Branch, has helped 35 people receive Home Choice Vouchers from the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO).  These vouchers are for Section 8 rental assistance, and pay, on average, 70% of the rent for an accessible apartment for a person with a disability.

The need for these vouchers is overwhelming, with a current waiting list of over 450 people.  Last week, Charles received the good news from HANO that 60 additional vouchers have been made available.  Charles and VanShawn are now working to help people on the waiting list qualify for the new vouchers.
