An Independent Life

M.M. was a resident in a group home in Lafayette. She was admitted to the group home when her Mom's home caught fire and the family home became a camper where she, her brother, and mother all lived.

M.M. displayed many independent qualities and when she was offered the Residential Options Waiver through the state's pilot program, and she accepted.
Many planning meetings later, M.M. was able to move out of the group home and into her own apartment in a small community near her Mom. M.M. also currently attends a day program where she is able to earn minimum wage for the work she does there. This helps M.M. to afford to participate in many community activities along with living independently in the community with adequate supports.
