A New Partnership between the AC and the Brain Injury Association of Louisiana

 The Brain Injury Association of Louisiana (BIALA) is delighted and honored to partner with the Advocacy Center of Louisiana in our vital and mutual interests in advocating for people with disabilities. BIALA supports brain and spinal cord injury survivors throughout Louisiana through our Resource Center (located in the Advocacy Center building), a 24-hour Hotline, 10 Support Groups, and an annual conference.

One Year of Advocacy

J.M. was involved in an automobile accident. He was hospitalized and, because of his condition, could not return to his home. Adult Protective Services managed to find him temporary housing, but a three-month shelter became a year-long stay, with no accommodations for J.M. and his disability. He was in and out of the hospital after his accident, he was clearly neglected, he had no wheelchair nor any personal belongings, and worst of all the only plan for an emergency exit was to place J.M. on bedsheets and drag him out. He had gone directly from the hospital to a new environment that was not suited for him, and though it was meant to be temporary, it became a long term problem.
