The Advocacy Center is always working toward our mission to protect and advocate for the human and legal rights of persons living in Louisiana who are elderly or disabled. Advocacy Center NewsUpdate on Child Residential Facilities The Advocacy Center is continuing to work on issues in child residential faciltiies across the state. Emergency Planning for People with Disabilities - The Advocacy Center has conducted surveys of parish plans for people with disabilities in the event of a disaster and has developed additional tips to help people with disabilities plan for a disaster. Barthelemy Successes and Challenges - Barthelemy v. Hood is a class action suit that was filed in 2000 on behalf of people living in nursing homes and people at imminent risk of entering a nursing home who preferred and could benefit from home and community based services. Chisholm v. Hood Fact Sheet and Chronology - Chisholm v. Hood is a class action lawsuit filed by the Advocacy Center in 1997 to make Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) live up to its obligation to arrange for necessary services under regular Medicaid to children on the MR/DD Waiver waiting list. |
